About Primrose Hill

Primrose Hill is the jewel of North Lincolnshire Scouts, a marvellous area of woodland and open space ideal for camping and all-things Scouting.

Situated just a couple of miles outside Scunthorpe close to the M180 motorway, Primrose Hill is extremely popular at all times of the year and is used by local groups, for district and county events, by groups from other districts from within Humberside scouting county, and by groups from other counties much further afield.

Getting to Primrose Hill

Access is easy along two woodland tracks, with ample parking making the site suitable for events of up to 500 participants.

On-site Facilities

Alongside plenty of open space, toilets and water standpipes around the site, our campsite has various facilities available, detailed below...

Camping

Primrose Hill has plenty of space for camping, whether this be a weekend getaway or a full week! There\'s also plenty of woodland space around the site suitable for hammock camping too. Checkout our site map above to explore the various camping areas around the site.

Huts

On site, there are 2 huts available to book, St Vincent\'s Hut (seen above) and Nelthorpe Hut, both available for day and overnight hire. Both huts are fully equipped with a kitchen including a commercial oven, Burco and plenty of worktop space, along with tables and chairs. The buildings have a water supply, but you must bring your own generator for power and propane gas for the oven. Unfortunately, butane gas can no longer be used.

Shelters

3 Shelters are available, with 2 near small campfire circles. These are great if you need more space for your campfire, or need some shelter from the rain during your activities. All shelters have table space for activities.

Campfires

New in 2024 was our main campfire circle, constructed of old trees from our site! This campfire circle is for large gatherings and sing-song campfires. For backwoods cooking and fire lighting activities, please use one our other campfire areas.

Backwoods Cooking Area

In place of our old main campfire circle, Primrose Hill now has a dedicated campfire circle for backwoods cooking, including 2 pizza ovens, altar fires, and a tripod for cooking over a fire! The area is free to use, but must be booked with the campsite team. You will need to provide your own wood pellets for the pizza ovens if you wish to use them.

Air Rifle Shooting

A popular activity, with sessions led by qualified instructors approved by the National Small-bore Rifle association. Our range has space for 4 shooters at a time, depending on experience and ability.

Please note only rifles provided by the district can be used on the range, you cannot bring your own guns to site.

Archery

A popular activity, with capacity for 4 archers simultaneously, and various size bows & arrows for various ages. Our instructors hold an Adventurous Activities Permit for archery, issued by the Scout Association. Guides wishing to book archery must have an instructor with an Archery GB permit.

Pioneering Poles

Plenty of pioneering poles are available on site, both long and short poles. A small number of ropes are available, but you may wish to bring extras depending on what you wish to make.

It\'s great fun for everyone involved, the only limitations being your imagination and the number of poles available!

Tomahawks

Another popular activity, with capacity for 2 participants to throw simultaneously.

Go Karts

Come rain or shine our go-karts are always in demand. 2 sizes are available and seats are adjustable for leg length. Helmets are provided and must be worn at all times. Whether you\'re drag-racing or just having a leisure pedal around the campsite, these go-karts are tremendous fun for young people of all ages.

Junior Assault Course

For our young people, North Lincolnshire Scouts has invested in a terrific junior assault course close to Nelthorpe Hut.

It doesn\'t have to be booked and is free of charge, ideal for the young, and young-at heart!

The activity area was officially opened by TV celebrity, adventurer and Scouting Ambassador Steve Backshall during his visit to Primrose Hill in 2016.

Squirrels Balance Bikes

The District has recently invested in new equipment for Squirrels, including balance bikes, tricycles and scooters. We also have small helmets available for Squirrels too!
