District Youth Commissioner Matthew Longden writes:
Hi there! My name is Matthew and I am delighted to be appointed as North Lincolnshire’s first ever District Youth Commissioner. I have been involved with Scouting since the age of 6 and have worked through all of the sections which resulted me in assisting of the running of the cub pack in Winterton. As part of the team providing fun and adventure, I achieved my wood badge at the age of 18. Since then, I have achieved my nights away permit and archery permit in order to provide new experiences with the young people I work with. Outside of Scouting, I am studying a degree in Human Geography at Aberystwyth University with the aim to start my PGCE in September 2018 in Newcastle. As well as this, I have spent the last year being the President of the Geography Society at University. Managing a society with over 150 members has been a rewarding challenge which led the society to win Society of the Year 2018 and a Welsh Language Gold Award for promoting the welsh language and ensuring that it is included within all aspects of the society. I am due to attend the World Scout Jamboree in 2019 as part of the UK Contingent Support Team. This will be my third jamboree and I am thoroughly looking forward to ensuring the 4000 people from the UK have an unforgettable experience. I am excited to begin this new role in my Scouting journey as I am passionate that young people are consulted on all matters that affect their Scouting lives. By young people working in partnership with adults, Scouting can move forward in a positive direction that provides fun and adventure for all.
