I have been District Commissioner of North Lincolnshire since 2011 when the District was formed following the merger of Scunthorpe and East Glanford Districts, having previously been the DC of Scunthorpe since 2009 and before that District Secretary.
The District covers a geographical area of 327 square miles. Within the District, we have 14 groups and a total of 850 members. Our groups run an excellent varied and active programme ensuring young people have a great time within Scouting.
Our aim is to see children and young adults reach their full potential and develop skills such as teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment. It's exciting being involved with us. We believe that through the everyday adventure of Scouting, young people and adult volunteers regularly experience new challenges that enrich their lives and meet lifelong friends. We offer hundreds of activities, as diverse as archery, kayaking and abseiling. Something for every young person, whatever their physical ability.
In 2016 we held the second of our PrimJam camps, celebrating the Cubs100 Centenary. We were delighted to welcome cub ambassador Steve Backshall, Helen Glover and Thom Evans to the event. It was brilliant to see our guests joining in the activities with the young people and Steve spoke about his passion for the outdoors and all that Scouting offers. This event returned earlier this year.
