Campsite Rules
We encourage all usual scouting activities but the leader of each group must make themselves aware of the campsite rules and is expected to ensure all members of their group operate within these rules.
No Dogs allowed on site.
Warden
The duty Warden has day-to-day charge of the site and their requests should be adhered to in all respects.
Go Carts
To be used within the procedures set out in the operating manual available on site.
Pioneering Poles
Pioneering poles are available for full day use. If the poles are not booked they will be available of a first come first served basis by contacting the warden on arrival. Please make sure they are returned to the rack after use.
Litter
The site must be left as it is found. All rubbish must be removed from the site by the groups.
Huts
- If the huts have been used they must be swept and the furniture stacked in a tidy manner. Kitchen areas must be cleaned and sanitised. Please ensure all windows are closed and taps turned off. Bins are to be left empty and on the inside of the hut. Please note users will need to bring their own gas bottle and also generator if electricity is required. The huts do have a basic solar lighting system. As there is no hard wired electricity supply to the site, leaders are to ensure they have serviceable torches available should there be a need to evacuate during the hours of darkness.
Water
The water supply to the site is metered. Water is distributed around the site by taps at various locations. Leaders are requested to ensure that the people use the water responsibly and ensure taps are firmly switched off when not in use. All water taps on site are drinking water but please avoid the tap next to the elsan disposal point at the rear of the toilets which gets used for elsan buckets.
Fires
Fires are to be lit on altar fires or fire brick bases provided by the site. Trench Fires and earth ovens are allowed in certain areas but the sites will be inspected by the warden to ensure that the holes are filled in, turf replaced and ash removed. There are several fire areas, which will be indicated by the Duty Warden. Cold ash can be spread out into the bracken areas at the edge of the woods.
Main campfire and raised seating area
This is to be used for formal camp fires only and should not be used for general fire lighting practice or cooking. Altar fires should not be used in this area. No unburnt wood should be left in this fire area.
Health and Safety
Users must be aware that this site operates in accordance with the appropriate Health & Safety requirements. All organised groups must be responsible for and implement an appropriate duty of care for the young people in their charge.
First Aid
Each group must provide their own First Aid equipment as well as their own mobile phone for use in the event of an emergency. Mobile phone signal is good.
Toilets
The campsite is equipped with flush toilets which should be cleaned by each group on vacation of the site. Campers further from the toilet may choose to bring Chemical Toilets (for scouts Greenfield permit required). . Water is distributed around the site by taps at various locations. Chemical toilets must be only be emptied in the designated disposal point. Washbasins in the toilet block are for hand washing only.
Firewood
Only fallen wood must be gathered from the woodland. It is forbidden to damage any un-fallen or living trees or branches. No wood to be removed from site.
Chainsaws
NO CHAINSAWS to be used on site (other than by district maintenance team)
Wet Pits
Wet pits can be dug five metres in from the wood edge but not on paths or tracks, the pits should be marked with a wooden cross when filled in. No food waste is to be put in wet pits.
Campsite Boundary
Fences designate the outer site boundary beyond which are roads. These fences must not be climbed or crossed.
Other Users
Consideration should be paid to other campers. Lights out should be at a reasonable time with no noise after. Foul language should not be used anywhere on the site. Volumes on the use of Electronic equipment such as speakers, radios etc. should be kept at a reasonable level. Groups should not infringe on other groups without an invitation.
Smoking
We strongly discourage smoking but ask leaders who do smoke to do so discreetly and not in front of the young people. Smoking is not permitted by any person under the age of 16 years. Smoking is not allowed in any building on site.
Alcohol
We have a policy that no alcohol is to be consumed in front of young people and it is expected that at least two adult members of the party do not consume any alcohol in case of an emergency. Alcohol is not to be consumed by anyone under the age of 18 years.
Vehicles
There is a strict 10 mph limit for all vehicles on the site. Hazard lights are not to be used on moving vehicles, if required headlights should be used. All vehicles and property are left at the owners own risk. After offloading camping equipment all leaders are requested to move their cars to the designated Car Parks outside of the red barriers. Trailers may be left at the camping area at owners risk. Parents of young people should be advised to park outside of the red barriers and leaders meet them at the barriers. Where possible please use the entrance gate closest to where you will be using the site.
Caravans/campervans
These are not allowed in the main camping area. Please park these in the car parks outside of the red barrier.

Adults camping
It is expected that all adults camping overnight or with unsupervised access to young people on the site will have obtained a current DBS check and will have completed safety and safeguarding training. This is mandatory for Scouting and Guiding.
Electrically Powered Equipment, Generators and Gas Powered Equipment
It is expected that any equipment brought to the site by visiting Groups is in good condition and inspected at regular intervals and also inspected prior to use.
Fire & Emergency Evacuation:
Fire evacuation procedures are posted up in the huts and users should familiarise themselves with them. The fire assembly points are the main flagpoles at East and West sides of the site. Escape routes are the Exit tracks at East and West side of the site.
