Who are our candidates?

Angela Bradley

My Scouting journey began in 2001 when I joined the District Executive Committee. In 2002, I became District Secretary, a position I held until becoming District Commissioner in 2009. During my 10-year term as DC, I oversaw the merger of Scunthorpe and East Glanford Districts into North Lincolnshire District. I also led key projects, including the refurbishment of both huts and the gas house, the installation of an archery range, crate stacking, a Beaver play area, and a new toilet block.

In 2014, 2016, and 2018, I led a team to deliver Prim Jam, an event that continues to thrive. I have been an active member of both the County and District Appointment Advisory Committees for many years.

Professionally, I retired as a Civil Servant two years ago after 39 years of service. My career has given me extensive experience in following guidance and ensuring procedures are correctly applied.

I look forward to the opportunity to serve as a Trustee and contribute my experience and dedication to the role.

David Bradley

Dedicated and experienced leader with 26 years of service, beginning as a Cub and Scout leader at Messingham Group before taking on additional roles of Assistant District Commissioner for Cubs and then Scouts. For the past 12 years, I have been Group Lead Volunteer at Messingham Group, overseeing operations, mentoring new leaders, and ensuring the stable running of the group. Beyond my role as GLV, I am the lead volunteer for our district campsite, managing maintenance, on-site activities, safety, and risk assessments.  With 25 years as a Trustee Board member at Messingham Group, I bring extensive expertise in governance, compliance, risk management, and finance, I have good knowledge of POR and can ensure that the trustee board is effective and responsible. Recently retired from my role as Medical Engineering Manager at Scunthorpe Hospital, I now apply my leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills to my volunteer endeavours, continuing to make a positive impact in our Scout District.

Becky Brown-Simpson

Hi, I'm Becky and over the last 13 years I have been a Scout Leader with the 16th Scunthorpe Scout group, and during that time have also held roles as a Beaver Leader, co-Explorer Leader, and Group Lead Volunteer (GLV). These varied responsibilities reflect my longstanding commitment to Scouting and my ability to work in a highly organised and flexible manner.

More recently, I have contributed to planning district events and have been appointed as District Lead Volunteer alongside Joe Jordan. These roles have provided me with valuable insight into the broader strategic needs of the district, and the importance of collaborative leadership.

My experience across multiple sections has taught me the value of understanding different perspectives, adapting to change, and fostering a positive, inclusive environment. I believe strongly in supporting our adult volunteers and ensuring that our young people continue to benefit from the incredible opportunities that Scouting provides.

I am enthusiastic about the future of Scouting in our district and would be honoured to contribute to the Trustee Board’s work in ensuring our groups are well-supported, compliant, and thriving.

Michael Hall

I have been involved in scouting for 78 yrs. Started as a Cub in Barnerby, moved to Brigg as a Scout and attended the 9th World Scout Jamboree at Sutton Colefield in 1957 as a patrol leader.

I was an Assistant Scout Leader at Brigg and became GSL when Len Marshall died. I completed my ADC training at Gilwell for East Glanford District and became a warden for Primrose Hill Campsite, which I have been ever since.

I am currently as assistant helper at Brigg Cubs and also a Trustee for 1st & 2 nd Brigg Scout Group and have lots of experience in scouting and not just in my own group but on District camp, County groups through my work at Primrose Hill.

I have seen and evolved through changes in scouting, all of which have given me a wealth of experience. I am reliable, punctual, inclusive, fair and can see other things from other perspectives, I will give my opinion but listen to others. I believe Scouting is important because it gives young people structure plus teaches skills that they will use throughout their lives.

I am excited about being part of the Trustee Board and enabling young people to prosper and expand their skill set, positively impacting their lives, I am interested in continuing my role on the Trustee Board because I firmly believe in the Scouting movement and want to contribute as I have done in the last 70 plus years.

Yours in scouting,

Michael Hall

I would love to join the District’s Trustee Board because of my long-term involvement as a Scout in the district, and it’d be great to be part of its future successes as well as further developing my skills. I will bring the youth voice to the trustees, the perspective of young people, so the current and next generations can continue to develop and learn skills for life! My commitment to Scouts over the past 14 years, from a Beaver through to a leader both at 6th Scunthorpe and my local group at Uni (and a trustee at 6th) means I’ve experienced Scouting from many perspectives, seeing the opportunities and the challenges we may face. As well as this, my skills with tech means I’ll be confident when using digital tools to ensure compliance, look at finance and collaborate digitally. I believe my organisation, time management and the ability to work effectively in a team would all make me a great trustee member for North Lincs Scouts.

As someone who started life in the movement as an 8 year old cub, I have served the Scout Association for nearly 30 years as:

Cub Scout Instructor, Assistant Cub Leader, Akela, District Cub Leader, ADC Cubs, Group Treasurer, Group Scout Leader and ADC Programme Support, I fully understand the needs of the movement and the support that is needed from the Executive.

Having been a school Governor in both Secondary and primary including as Chair, Vice Chair and Chair of Finance for over 20 years, my experience includes working at a strategic level, leadership, finance, fundraising, event management, marketing, safeguarding and personnel as well as compliance and disciplinary.

I know that under the joint leadership of Becky and Joe there is going to be more innovation and creativity in the ways that a youth lead programme is delivered in North Lincolnshire.

I feel that as a member of the executive and Trustee my role would be to support, challenge and be a critical friend to the leadership team.

I believe that I have the right combination of experience as a uniformed member and that of a trustee that I would be an effective and valued member of the board.

I have been involved in Scouting most of my life, as a young person and then a leader in various roles, including Group, District and County roles.

I would like to continue my involvement with the District as it moves forward under the exciting changes that have just been made both at District and National levels. I feel that my experience lends itself to helping the District to flourish and grow.

Andrew Oliver

Andy Oliver is a seasoned Scouting Leader with over 20 years of experience running Cubs, Scouts and Explorers within North Lincolnshire Scouts. He is currently the Group Lead Volunteer for 1st Goxhill and Barrow Scout Group and a current Trustee Board member for the District.

His expertise includes strategic planning and fund raising; where he has led on the continued development of the Groups HQ site in New Holland, being successful in acquiring over £70K in funding grants over the last few years.

In his free time Andy enjoys hiking, climbing, diving and sailing and regularly volunteers with Ocean Youth Trust as an Ambassador and as a sea-going watch leader on their sail training yacht James Cook.

Louise Price

I have a strong background in the Utilities/Construction sector and a longstanding commitment to community service. I have been a Guide and Ranger Leader for over 30 years. I am also currently the Girlguiding Brigg Division Commissioner and a County Trainer. I was elected to Broughton Town Council in 1992 and I currently hold the role of Deputy Mayor and Mayor elect. Town Councillors serve as the bridge between the community and higher levels of local government. Being a Town Councillor has given me many skills - leadership and decision making, communication and public engagement, governance and accountability, supporting volunteers, teamwork and collaboration to name a few.

My family is a Scouting/Guiding family. My husband is an Explorer Leader and holds other Scouting roles. Both my Adult children grew up with Scouting and Guiding and both now hold Adult Leadership roles. As well as my Girlguiding role, I also have a Scouting role and I am sometimes called upon to be an additional adult.

What excites me most about the chance to help shape our Scouting District’s future is the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of our young people. Being a part of shaping the District’s direction means I can help ensure local Scouting stays relevant, inclusive and inspiring for the next generation.

Mike Prudom

I have been involved in Scouting, as an adult, since 1994 in a number of admin/management roles, joining the Group Executive of 5th Ashby and the District Executive Committee.

In 2007 I was appointed County Commissioner for Humberside and was responsible for reorganising the County District structure.

Since retiring from that role, I have been chair of both the County and District Appointment Committees during which time I have dealt with a number of safeguarding issues which I believe were handled both fairly and decisively. In my working life I was a senior legal manager in the Courts Service. I am used to making difficult, evidence-based decisions and carrying them through.

I am also a trustee of a charity for adults with learning difficulties.

I believe the new district structure has the potential to grow and provide more adventure for young people, which I would hope to encourage and facilitate.

John Ratcliffe

Thank you for taking time to read these words.

My name is John Ratcliffe and many of you will know me through my work for the District within Scouting.
My experience includes being a member of the District Executive, District Appointments Committee, activities instructor and various roles within local Groups.
I am currently a Warden at Primrose Hill and a team member with 6th Scunthorpe (Messingham).

I joined North Lincolnshire Scouts 14 years ago and have devoted much time to our wonderful movement, save a few months in 2023-24 due to a serious illness and major surgery.
I wish to become a District Trustee to help shape the future of the District and aid adult leaders and young people of all ages in our charge.

The Trustee Board will focus on strategy, performance and assurance to help volunteers deliver fantastic programmes that give young people #skillsforlife

Since being a cub, then a Scout in my youth, it has been good to be associated with the Scouting movement again in recent years as your Treasurer

Upon learning of the vacancy for a Chair, I was happy to offer to step up to hopefully help move the organisation forward at this time.

I can also bring varied, relevant experience to the role. During my career, I have developed significant experience in corporate governance, having operated in senior management and Board level roles for many years. I have managed several multi-million-pound business units, projects and budgets, supported by comprehensive business experience and education to Masters level.

Since ceasing full time employment, I have also held positions as Trustee in various charities, this has included the role of chair of operational committees, again with oversight of multi-million-pound levels of expenditure.

Having seen my children and, latterly, grandchildren develop through the scouts/guides network (and my wife as volunteer helper), over the years I have always retained a strong affinity with the organisation and would be proud to become your chair.
